What’s the Big Deal about Décor?
There’s only one show you need to attend to discover all there is to know about the latest design and décor trends? Decorex 2017 has arrived in the Mother City and we’re super excited to see what’s in store! We’re often asked about design and décor, and how it really impacts an event. The best wedding planners understand how important wedding décor is when it comes to your big day. It’s not just about a pretty arrangement of wedding flowers perfectly placed on a table. It’s so much more than that. As event specialists, we have an eye for design. While your guests might not recognise the elegant pink Peonies that adorned a room, they’ll remember that the event felt warm and romantic. That’s the magic of wedding flowers and décor. It’s the subtle elements that create a magical event. They might not realise that the 4-course meal was served on the finest china, but they will get that feeling of sophistication and grandeur. Here are a few interior design trends that we absolutely love and, when executed correctly, can turn an ordinary event into something spectacular and memorable.
The Marble Effect
Marble is interesting, timeless and creates a feel of elegance and grandeur in the home. It’s also becoming increasingly popular in the events realm, with everything in marble from coffee tables and crockery to wedding stationery and marble wedding cakes.
Jewel tones are big in interior design - with bold colours like cerise pink, mustard and emeralds. We’re noticing the same colour trend in events, think emerald green velvet couches with cerise pink scatter cushions. You don’t always have to rely on wedding flowers to bring in your colour palette. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, or you can opt for singular colour accents.
This isn’t the first time we’ve mentioned Pantone’s 2017 colour of the year - greenery - and it won’t be the last. Hanging ferns and delicious monster plants don’t only add foliage to the home, but they’re ideal when bringing in greenery to an event. It’s a natural way to introduce wedding décor and is a fabulous alternative to an overload of wedding flowers.
Copper, rose gold and brass are all the rage when it comes to household finishes, such as cupboard handles, sinks and bath taps. While it’s not a new trend, it’s definitely here to stay. Metallics are being used organically in the events industry, with interesting decorative light features and subtle wedding décor elements - such as metallic candle holders, accents on wedding cakes and wedding signage.
In the Background
Wall paper, believe it or not, is making a comeback and we’re loving the incredible designs and patterns that are coming out! Flower wall backdrops and printed floral screens are a great way to glam up any event photos.
Artisanal pieces, such as artisanal décor or bespoke furniture pieces, are beautifully crafted. You can bring artisanal elements into your event with bespoke furniture, craft beer and artisanal cuisine - to name a few.
This is probably one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day - wedding décor! It’s the most creative way to bring in your theme, colours and add personality to your wedding. And this is also where an events specialist will come in handy. Wedding décor doesn’t need to be overboard to make an impact. Sometimes less is more. We’re not talking about placing a few candles on a table - although candlelight is oh so romantic. The flow, design and layout of an event impacts your choice of wedding décor. If you don’t have an eye for this kind of stuff, don’t stress, that’s why we’re here!
Until next time, stay creative.
